Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) - Cincinnati, Ohio

Tummy Tuck / Abdominoplasty Overview - Cincinnati, Ohio
Columbus Plastic Surgeon Dr. Michael Vennemeyer performs Tummy Tuck Surgery (Abdominoplasty) for those in Cincinnati, Ohio. Tummy Tuck Surgery (Abdominoplasty) accomplishes many things that you are unable to do on your own through diet and exercise. Although diet and exercise are important for weight loss and should be part of your healthy lifestyle, no amount of diet and exercise can tighten loose skin or repair the laxity in your abdominal girdle following pregnancy. Tummy Tuck Surgery (Abdominoplasty) makes your stomach flatter and tighter by surgically repairing your inner girdle. In addition, a Tummy Tuck involves removing the loose skin on your lower abdomen which effectively tightens your upper abdomen as well. Dr. Vennemeyer's Ohio patients find that one of the benefits of removing the lower abdominal skin is that it not only removes the fat underneath the skin, but it also removes the stretch marks in this area as well!

Mini-Tummy Tuck – Cincinnati, Ohio
During your private consultation, Dr. Vennemeyer will discuss your surgical options. In general there are two types of Tummy Tucks. A Mini-Tummy Tuck, or Mini-Abdominoplasty, is perfect for those with excessive fat between their belly button and pubic bone. Bulging tissue in this area may result from the lower stomach muscles being flaccid as well as the accumulation of excess fatty tissue. Many times, flaccid muscles are the result of damage to the supportive tissue (also known as fascia) during pregnancy. Surgery involves a small incision directly above the pubic area. In this procedure, loose skin is cut away so that your abdominal skin is flatter and the abdominal wall is tightened. In some cases, Dr. Vennemeyer may recommend liposuction along with your Mini-Tummy Tuck to remove excess fat and to give you more pleasing results.

Tummy Tuck / Abdominoplasty – Cincinnati, Ohio
A Tummy Tuck, or Abdominoplasty, corrects not only the fat bulge between your belly button and pubic bone, but also loose fat and skin around and above your belly button. In a Full Tummy Tuck, the abdominal wall, particularly around the belly button, is elevated. The loose skin and fat in this area are then pulled tightly and the excess skin is removed. After tightening the abdominal girdle and removing the excess skin and fat, the belly button is reinserted into the skin. The result is a beautifully flat and toned abdomen.

Tummy Tuck in Cincinnati, Ohio - FAQ

Will a Tummy Tuck remove stretch marks?
Yes! Stretch marks are a sign of irreparable damage to the skin's structural
components. Once stretch marks appear no amount of diet, exercise or creams can reverse the damage to your skin. The only way to get rid of stretch marks is to surgically remove the skin. During your private consultation with Cincinnati Plastic Surgeon Dr. Vennemeyer, he will discuss in detail what to expect after your surgery. In addition, he will also be able to show you which lower abdominal skin and stretch marks will be removed during your tummy tuck. It is important to understand that your Tummy Tuck will not remove any stretch marks on your mid or upper abdomen skin and that after surgery this skin will actually shift toward your lower abdomen.

Will a Tummy Tuck remove the thick layer of fat on my upper abdomen?
It is important to understand that if you have a thick layer of upper abdominal fat, a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) will not correct this. However, if this is an area of concern for you, Ohio Plastic Surgeon Dr. Vennemeyer may be able to perform Liposuction in your upper abdomen to reduce the thickness in this area.

Can Upper Abdomen Liposuction be done with my Tummy Tuck?
Yes! Many times Liposuction combined with Tummy Tuck surgery (Abdominoplasty) is an excellent way to get beautiful results. During your private consultation with Ohio Plastic Surgeon Dr. Vennemeyer, he will discuss your options and suggest the treatment plan that is safest for you and that will maximize your results. In some cases, if aggressive upper abdominal liposuction is required, you may need to have your Tummy Tuck and Liposuction as staged procedures. This is because aggressive upper abdominal liposuction at the same time as your Tummy Tuck can interfere with circulation and cause complications.

What will my Tummy Tuck scars look like?
Dr. Vennemeyer takes great care to make your tummy tuck scar as low as possible, so that it can be hidden in underwear or when wearing a bikini at the beach. Depending on the extent of skin needing to be removed, the length of your scar will vary. Mini-Tummy tuck scars are positioned just above the pubic bone and are typically a few inches in length. Full Tummy Tuck scars are also positioned above the pubic bone, but may span the length of your lower abdomen depending on the extent of tissue needing to be removed.

Can I lessen the visibility of my Tummy Tuck scars?
Columbus Plastic Surgeon Dr. Vennemeyer will use every technique possible during surgery to minimize your scaring. In addition, there are several things you can do during your post-op healing process to further minimize scars.

What should I expect after my Tummy Tuck Surgery?
Expect to take one to two weeks off work so you have plenty of time to heal. For the first few days following surgery you will want to take pain medication and get plenty of rest. You will be sore, but you will want to make sure that you get up to walk at regular intervals to decrease the risk of a blood clot in your legs or lungs. When you wake up from surgery, you will have gauze bandages over your incision and an abdominal binder. The abdominal binder helps keep tension off your incision and makes movement more comfortable following surgery.

You will likely have several small drains in place when you wake up from your tummy tuck surgery. These drains help collect excess fluid produced by your tissues as you heal.  You will need to empty these drains at regular intervals and record the output each day.  When you are healing nicely and the drains are no longer needed, Dr. Vennemeyer will remove them in his office.
