Before surgery, Dr. Vennemeyer will once again carefully reevaluate both the amount and the position of the excess skin to be removed. He will then outline the area of excess skin to be taken off. In the operating room, Dr. Vennemeyer will surgically remove the band of excess skin and bring your tissue and skin back together beautifully.

You should expect to take several weeks off from work so you have plenty of time to heal. When you wake up from surgery, you will have gauze bandages over your incisions and an abdominal binder. The abdominal binder keeps tension off your incision and makes movement more comfortable following surgery.  You will likely have several small drains in place when you wake up from your total body lift. These drains help collect excess fluid produced by the tissues as you heal.  You will need to empty these drains at regular intervals and record the output each day.  When you are healing nicely and the drains are no longer needed, the drains will be removed in Dr. Vennemeyer's office.  For the first few days following surgery you will want to take pain medication and get plenty of rest. You will be sore, but you will want to make sure that you get up to walk at regular intervals to decrease the risk of a blood clot in your legs or lungs.
