Mini Facelift / Necklift - Cincinnati, Ohio

Mini Facelift / Necklift Overview
Cincinnati Plastic Surgeon Dr. Michael Venemeyer performs Mini Facelift Surgery for those in Cincinnati, Ohio and Northern Kentucky. With aging, wrinkles, tissue sagging and loss of volume in the face and jaw line become more noticeable. Mini facelift surgery works by helping reverse the harmful effects of stress and time. Over the past several years, there has been a trend towards doing less invasive procedures at younger ages. Many find that this is an excellent way to prolong the effects of aging more gracefully.

Good candidates for a mini facelift are those with loss of skin elasticity and minimal signs of jowling in their lower face and neck. During your consultation with Dr. Vennemeyer, he will carefully examine you and determine if you are an appropriate candidate for a mini facelift. In some cases, if jowling is minimal, but loss of volume around your mouth and lips is prominent, Dr. Vennemeyer may suggest a less invasive, non-surgical approach such as Juvederm, (a dermal filler). In other cases, Dr. Vennemeyer may suggest a combination of a mini facelift, a chemical peel, and a dermal filler.

As a skilled Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Vennemeyer offers a wide range of surgical and non-surgical options to help give you the more youthful appearance you desire. During your private consultation, he will listen to your aesthetic goals and determine if you are a good candidate for mini facelift surgery. After carefully evaluating your skin elasticity, tissue sagging and facial volume loss, Dr. Vennemeyer will discuss with you in detail the best approach for achieving the most natural and beautiful results. Dr. Vennemeyer will then take time to answer all your questions and together you will determine the best treatment plan for you.

Mini Facelift vs. Full Facelift/ Necklift - Cincinnati, Ohio
Mini facelift surgery addresses minimal sagging, whereas a full facelift addresses more extensive sagging. On occasion, a mini face lift is referred to as a 'small' of 'short incision' facelift. With a mini facelift, an incision is made in front of the ear. In a full facelift, the incision extends behind the ear and also involves tightening the muscles of the neck. In both cases, great care is taken to place the incision in your natural creases to hide the scars. The mini facelift addresses the jowls and lower face laxity and is less extensive than a full facelift. In both a mini face lift and a full facelift, the skin of the lower face is elevated from the underlying tissues and re-draped.

Mini Facelift Scars – Cincinnati, Ohio
Dr. Vennemeyer has special techniques that he uses during surgery to minimize scaring for your mini facelift surgery. After 48 hours you may use mineral makeup as instructed by your plastic surgeon to hide the bruising around your incisions. After surgery, scars are typically pinkish in color, but begin to lighten over the next month or two. Starting a week or two after your mini facelift, you can also begin doing scar massage to help with the healing process.

Mini Facelift Recovery – Cincinnati, Ohio
After your mini facelift surgery, there will be a thick ace bandage around your head and possibly several small
drains to collect excess fluid produced by your healing tissues. You will need to walk at regular intervals to decrease your risk of a blood clot in your legs or lungs. Facelift patients should expect swelling and bruising after surgery. This typically lasts a couple of weeks, but can last longer. Most patients take one to two weeks off from their normal activities or work to heal. It is important to sleep with your head elevated to minimize swelling after surgery. Applying cold compresses at twenty minute intervals will also help, but be careful not to leave compresses on longer than twenty minutes at a time as this may cause skin necrosis. Most mini facelift patients need pain medicine during the first few days. You can resume light exercise like walking after the first week, but you will need to work back gradually into your normal routine over 4-6 weeks.

Mini Facelift Surgery Potential Complications – Cincinnati, Ohio
As with any surgery, bleeding can occur and result in a hematoma or collection of blood underneath the skin. This usually needs to be drained surgically. Although rare, infection can occur after a mini facelift. Skin necrosis (skin loss) can occur if there is insufficient blood supply to the skin. This can range from minimal areas that heal without intervention or, rarely, can be severe enough to require further surgery to correct. Smoking greatly increases this risk. As with any surgery, nerve injury can occur resulting in paralysis or areas of numbness in certain areas of the face. Typically, this is temporary and resolves over a few weeks or months. It is important to remember that asymmetry is the rule rather than the exception when it comes to peoples' faces. A mini facelift generally does not change this and your normal asymmetries will persist. Mild asymmetry of incisions is possible, but this is usually not noticeable because all the incisions cannot be seen at the same time.
