During Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) the plastic surgeon makes an incision that is later hidden by the eyelashes or the natural skin fold. Excess skin and fatty tissue are removed through this incision, which should heal well after Blepharoplasty, leaving little or no visible scar. If the surgeon performs a lower Blepharoplasty, fat may be redistributed to create a more even appearance and excess tissue is removed.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) Recovery – Cincinnati, Ohio
After your eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty), expect to have swelling and bruising around your eyes. If you take it easy after surgery, this may resolve in as little as one week. However, if you increase your activity level too quickly after surgery and do not rest appropriately, you may have bruising and swelling for up to two weeks. Most patients take one or two weeks off from their normal activities or work in order to heal appropriately. After your eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty) sterile saline gauze pads may be applied for the first 48 hours to help decrease post-op swelling and bruising. You will need to sleep with your head elevated to minimize swelling for the first week. Most eyelid surgery patients require some pain medicine for a few days afterwards. You can resume light exercise like walking after the first week, but you will need to gradually work back into your normal routine over 4-6 weeks.


Eyelid Lift Surgery - Possible Complications
As with all surgeries, the risks associated with Blepharoplasty surgery include bleeding, infection and scaring. In addition, skin necrosis (skin loss) can occur if there is an inadequate blood supply to the skin. This can range from minimal areas that heal without intervention or rarely, can be severe enough to require further surgery to correct. As with all surgeries, nerve injury can occur resulting in areas of numbness or paralysis in the area of the procedure. This is usually temporary, resolving over several weeks to months. It is important to remember that asymmetry is the rule rather than the exception when it comes to peoples' faces. Eyelid surgery generally does not change this and your normal asymmetries will not change. Mild asymmetry of the incisions is also possible.
