Arm Lift /Arm Tuck - Cincinnati, Ohio
(Brachioplasty)

What is Arm Lift Surgery (Brachioplasty)?
As we age, skin looses elasticity and begins to sag. Additionally, weight loss plays a major role in the development of excess skin. Once skin has been stretched to a certain point, no amount of diet or strenuous exercise will correct for the skin's damage. When excess underarm skin occurs, the best solution to getting slender and toned arms is Arm Lift Surgery. Arm Lift Surgery (Brachioplasty) is excellent for those embarrassed to wear bathing suits or short sleeve clothing because of exposure of their excessive under arm skin.

How is Arm Lift Surgery (Brachioplasty) performed?
Arm Lift surgery involves making an incision on the underside of your arm that extends from your armpit to near the elbow. Your plastic surgeon, Dr. Vennemeyer, will then surgically remove the extra skin and fat and close the incision. The length of your Arm Lift scar will depend on the amount of extra skin needing removed. Before surgery Dr. Vennemeyer will evaluate your excess skin and discuss all your surgical options.  Together you will decide the best surgical approach to achieve your desired results.

What will my Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) scars look like?
Before your Arm Lift, Dr. Vennemeyer will describe the location of the scars and discuss what to expect after surgery. The extent of skin and tissue that needs to be removed will detmine the length of the scar. Your Arm Lift scars will be hidden on the underside of your arm, but it is impossible to predict how thick and dark the scars will be. After your surgery, you should expect the appearance of your scar to fade for one year. Minimizing arm activity and keeping strain off your incisions several weeks following surgery helps your body heal and lessens your propensity for unsightly scaring. It is important that you understand prior to surgery that you are essentially trading flabby arms or "bat wings" for more slender arms that will have a permanent scar. This is a very tolerable trade off for many happy patients who have undergone Arm Lift surgery!

What should I expect after my Arm Lift Surgery (Brachioplasty)?
When you wake up from surgery, you will have ace bandages over your incisions and may have drainage tubes in place. These drains help collect excess fluid produced by your tissues as you heal. For the first few days following surgery you will want to take pain medication and get plenty of rest. You will be sore, but you will want to make sure that you get up to walk at regular intervals to decrease the risk of a blood clot in your legs or lungs.  After Arm Lift surgery, (Brachioplasty), you should expect about one to two weeks of downtime. The more you rest after surgery the faster and more beautifully you will heal. Within a few weeks you should be able to return to all your normal activities. To maximally benefit from your Arm Lift surgery, Dr. Vennemeyer recommends arm toning exercises on a regular basis starting about six weeks after surgery. This will help you develop toned arm muscles so that your results keep looking great. Patients who have undergone Arm Lift surgery love the fact that upper body clothing now fits beautifully.
